Is the AbleSwim ring safe and secure?
The AbleSwim ring is designed to gently support the head and neck allowing the body to float freely. There are two clips that fasten securely.
Who is the AbleSwim ring suitable for?
The AbleSwim ring is suitable for children, teenagers and adults with physical disabilities.
In most cases, that means someone who would usually need to be held in the water.
It is used by people with a wide range of conditions including cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and acquired brain injury.
Is the AbleSwim ring stable, can it tip?
The AbleSwim ring is stable in the water. Its design supports the body in a natural, balanced position.
Is there a weight limit?
There isn’t a strict weight limit. What matters most is neck circumference. The ring supports the head, allowing the body to float, rather than holding body weight.
How do I choose the right size?
Sizing is based on neck circumference. Measure snugly around the mid neck with a soft tape measure. Do not size up for safety. Scroll down for the size guide.
Do I need to do anything before first use?
Yes. We recommend inflating the ring upon receipt and leaving it overnight. This allows you to check it is holding air before first use.
Can it be used by someone who is nil by mouth or has swallowing difficulties?
Some people using the AbleSwim ring are nil by mouth or have an unsafe swallow.
If this applies, we strongly recommend swimming in very calm water, stay close and attentive at all times. We wouldn’t recommend using it in a busy or unpredictable pool environment.
Will it give total independence?
Yes, it’s a game changer! The ring allows someone to float without the need to be held constantly giving greater independence in the water.
How should the user be positioned in the water?
For more active movement the swim ring ring can be used on its own. For a more relaxed time in the water, many people add a pool noodle under the legs to create a reclined and chilled position.
Where can the AbleSwim ring be used?
The AbleSwim ring can be used in swimming pools, hydrotherapy pools, hot
tubs and even the bath.Use in calm water only. Do not use the ring in open water, strong currents, water rides or anywhere you cannot comfortably stand and support the user.
Can the AbleSwim ring be used on holiday?
100% yes! The ring is lightweight and easy to pack. For many, it becomes an essential holiday item. Some people rely on it so much, they take two just in case!
